i got to see the ruth asawa show on the last day of it's run in LA a couple of weeks ago. her work is breathtaking, i can't stop thinking about it. she's shown here in a shot from 1957 working on one of her crocheted wire sculptures.

I'm so sorry I missed it .. my friends up in the Bay Area simply raved about it when it was up there. One of them took a workshop at the DeYoung on wire crochet and taught my sister, my cousin and me! You can see pics here:

I would love to take on this craft more often but the hands get all kinds of cramped. I'd rather gaze and the utter beauty of R.A.'s incredible pieces.
