warning: this blogger is about to expose her extremely geeky side - but isn't that what blogs are all about anyway?
if i had the ability to time travel and was given only three choices i would have to pick the nut tree, la fonda del sol and textiles & objects/T&O.
alexander girard collected and was inspired by folk art. he saw it as "preserving evidence of the past, not as a pattern for sentimental imitation, but as nourishment for the creative spirit of the present".
T&O opened in 1961 in new york city and carried folk art from is collection, his textiles, eames stools and maryilyn neuhart dolls among other things. he also designed the fixtures.
many pieces from his extensive folk art collection remain on display in the girard wing of the museum of inernational folk art in santa fe. (time travel not necessary!)

I love the vintage plushies! Reminds me of a Moloko album cover. Very cool.

I knew I loved you for a reason beyond the flower looms, and I've found it in the Nut Tree. My grandparents lived in Vacaville for many years, and some of my fondest memories involve riding the little train and climbing the "play wall" by day in the early '70s . . . then drifting off to sleep at night in their guest room, lulled by the gentle sounds of I-80 traffic and the ubiquitous scent of the onion fields . . .
