as you might know i blog from time to time about my great admiration for edith heath and my love of the dinnerware she created (that's some of my collection in the lower photo). well it looks my "day job" is about to overlap with all of that. i'm going to be helping out with the merchandising for the opening of the new heath store in los angeles (that's it there in the top picture).
the store is located on beverly blvd.@ sierra bonita and opens later this week.
one of the best things about the recent boom in crafts is that there are so many places opening up that offer craft classes. i am so excited to announce that i am going to be teaching the "how to use a flower loom" class on december 13th at the craft kitchen in santa ana! the craft kitchen is run by nicole stevenson of random nicole (who also brings us the fabulous patchwork show) and offers all sorts of classes for both kids and adults.
here are the details:
"how to use a flower loom to create vintage inspired flowers"
i will teach you all the basics of how to use a flower loom, you will
make a few flowers and i will show you how to turn them into brooches
and hair clips
saturday december 13th, 11 am - 2 pm
class fee is $50 plus $15 for supplies which include a mini flower loom kit (yours to take home) - i will also have additional kits and supplies for purchase

i'm getting off to slow start today and really need to start cooking but decided to linger a little longer in bed, drink coffee and catch on some of my favorite blogs. it occurred to me that i should probably watch the macy's parade but realized i really didn't have to when i ran across some delightful images of macy's parades of the past that my new favorite blog of all time has posted.

of artists and designers.

almost every store is now offering some sort of reusable shopping bag. of course it's a great idea but the design and graphics are usually kinda bad - like the "tommy bahama" influenced bags at trader joe's that i refuse to use. anyway, i was at cost plus/world market the other day and i stopped dead in my tracks when i saw their bag. they feature vintage photos and graphics (detail scans below) from their famous san francisco location. when i was little no trip to san francisco was complete without a trip to cost plus imports (as they were called before world market). many items from there could be found in my childhood bedroom. i am hugely influenced by memories of going there and looking at all of the "unique gifts".
coincidently i leave for the bay area tomorrow morning. an organizer for a very cool project found me through my blog and has invited me to participate. will fill you in when i can, but it's something that involves california history (1960-75) as told through memories and objects. it's very fitting that i just stumbled across this bag with images that brought back very happy memories from a very particular time for me.
what a day it was on sunday at felt club. just look at how crowded it was! i think everyone had a good time and found lots of amazing crafts. it was so busy i was at my table all day and only had a few minutes to take a quick spin around. i feel like i probably missed out on some really good stuff.
i want to thank each and everyone of you who stopped by my table to say hi. as usual i meet so many wonderful people at the shows and it means so much to me that you like my blog and the stuff i make.
