papier-mache jewelry class @ reform school: home ec feb 2 + 9

 

i am so pleased to announce that i am going to be teaching the very first class (yipee!!!) at reform school: home ec  in silver lake on feb 2nd + 9th* between 7 - 9 PM and will cost $40. i'll be teaching the basics (and a little history, of course) of papier-mache jewelry and the project for the class will be a floral brooch (yours to take home!).

i ran across an article covering the trend in stitchery used in "commercial art". i became fixated on judith hoffman corwin's appliqued alphabet that she created for american baby magazine. judith is quoted as prefering a straight stitch rather than zig-zag so that the edges can rag and fray so as to transform her work into a "raggedy pattern so that it flows and is not regimented".

i so wish that this photo was in color.
