i really need a day off. i truthfully could not tell you when my last day off was. the thing is since i have been working at home so much lately it's hard for me to actually relax at home. it's so easy to just continue working on one of the many projects i have going on. so i think i should plan a little day trip to get myself out of the house. i thought about going to the antelope valley to look at the poppies - but it's a little too early in the season (mid-april is when the blooms are expected to be at their peak).
i'm hoping instead to have enough energy to hop in the car tomorrow and head down to san diego for the first day of “masters of mid-century california modernism -- evelyn and jerome ackerman” at the mingei international museum in balboa park. who knows if i will actually make it down there tomorrow - but it's up until next january so i think i have plenty of time to procrastinate.
the la times has just posted some nice things about ackermans:
a slideshow of their work is here and tour of their home is here and an article is here

Wow! The poppy fields look insane! I'm going to definitely go in April. How long did it take to get there from around our parts? And I'm going to make a special trip to San Diego for the exhibition too! So informative as always - thanks Cathy! x

The exhibition sounds fantastic, I'd love to go. January you say? I might be able to wrangle something by then.

I went to the opening of the exhibition and let me tell you, it is fantastic! I had the opportunity to meet the Ackermans--warm and intelligent people, still spry in their 80s. The variety of work is unbelievable--from mosaics to ceramics to tapestries to woodcarvings. Clearly an very talented duo who leveraged their fine art talents and made beautiful pieces that people could afford to have in their homes.
