i had really been looking forward to the release of handcrafted modern: at home with mid-century designers by leslie williamson. i knew i was just going to love it - but i had no idea how much i was going to love it.
leslie photographed the homes of designers such as george nakashima, harry bertoia, eve zeisel and the ackermans just to name a few. she shot all of the homes using available light and did absolutly no styling (with the exception of removing a few household products that had visible brand names). the results are just breathtaking. don't get me wrong i love photos that are styled (there is nothing wrong with a few flowers and bowl of lemons here and there) but there is something that is just so refreshing about looking at these homes the way the people actually live.
leslie has also be posting outtakes from the book on her blog. it must have been so hard for her to select what went into the book - i'm hoping she can do a "part 2".
and if you live in the los angeles area heath ceramics is hosting a booksigning on saturday evening 10/23.
Wow ... I had this book on my Christmas wishlist, now I'm wondering if I can wait that long ;-)
