have you ever looked at something and thought to yourself that the person who created it was saying something that you had always felt but you were never quite able to articulate? that's what i experienced when i first saw (probably at MOCA in the late 80s) more love hours than can ever be repaid by mike kelley. at first look i thought how cool it was that he used thrifted stuff animals and craft projects in his art. but then i saw the title and it really struck a deep cord with me.
i was shocked and saddened to hear that he passed away the other day. a memorial has been set up in highland park. before i head over i plan on hitting a thrift store first so i can find just the right stuffed animal that i can leave there in his honor.
