garden supper casserole, 1971

Gardensuppercasserole

i was raised on casseroles. cooking was not really my mom's strong suit (but she could out-craft just about anybody) so anything that was quick and easy was actually a really big relief for her. but the funny thing is that making a casserole uses alot of the same skills as making crafts.

in my "old school" column in the latest issue of craft: magazine i recreate the food of my youth and give it a little bit of a modern update. it was very easy to research, all i had to do was go to my kitchen and open up my mom's 1971 betty crocker recipe card library where i found recipes for no less than 27 casseroles.

well it's almost dinner time. i think i'll go preheat my oven to 350 degrees. then mix up some bread crumbs, cheese and butter. then i'll get the peas out of the freezer, chop up some onions, take the leftover meat from last night out of the tupperware and measure out a cup + a half of milk. then throw it all in my greased 1 quart casserole dish. i'll probably want to add a little salt and pepper, arrange my tomato slices on top and bake for 25 minutes.

the pincushion kits are now in etsy shop

What_you_get_in_the_kit

a few months ago I had the privilege of demonstrating crafts at the L.A. county fair. i spotted a super cute pincushion in a 1965 issue of family circle magazine and chose that as the project i was going to demo. these kits were what i made available that day for people to purchase in case they wanted to do the project along with me. i adjusted and updated the instructions to better suit modern day craft supplies and of course gave it a little bit of my own spin.

much to my delight the folks at craft: magazine have featured the kit in the new issue! so i've made just a few more kits that are now available in my shop. after those are gone then that's it!

please check out the flickr group i created for everyone to share the pictures of their completed pincushions.

i have the makings for most of the kits on hand and will assemble them just as soon as i can. stay tuned for updates.

but for now i have to dash off to work!

bead simple

Beadsimple

i was so excited when susan beal asked me to design something for her new book, "bead simple". it looks like i'll be in really good company among the 39 fantastic guest designers that susan chose to create projects in addition to the 111 projects that she created herself.

"bead simple" will be at your favorite bookstore on march 28, 2008 or you can pre-order it on amazon.

here's a preview of some of the items i'll be selling on sunday at felt club. i'm sure it's no big surprise that i have a ton of vintage craft supplies. i thought it might be fun to try out a few kits.

each kit has everything you need to make loomed flowers - a loom (or looms), instruction book and 3 skiens of ribbon straw (but you can also use yarn). everything is either vintage or new old stock.

(sorry for the sucky photos. the reflection form the vinyl was a bit of a problem.)
